Water in the dam is used as a domestic supply for Ballarat and Geelong Former Lal Lal Railway Station (2011) - the railway in opened here in 1862 Lal Lal Primary School No 863 (2011) - opened in 1866. The students walk, ride bikes, ride a horse or are driven to school from the surrounding district
