In 1896, his daughter, Ellena, married Charles Pierlot, the wine maker at the Great Western Cellars Great Western Primary School (2011). This school opened in 1881 to replace the earlier Common School, on adjacent land Great Western Rest Area Vine Lodge (2011). Joseph and Henry Best lived in a four-room cottage which later became part of this 12-room homestead. This is now an accommodation facility at Seppelts Great Western War Memorial Park (2011). The memorials in the park were unveiled in 1956, by Sir Dallas Brooks, Governor of Victoria
